You might have recently noticed some downtime on my website. Well, it was not a server maintenance day; it was me being fed up with the number of bugs and other issues I was facing with Ghost version 0.9.0.
In recent months, I switched to Ghost because of its interface and ease of use. It is completely designed for content development. It helped me be more productive because I could focus on writing, which was all I wanted. I preferred it because my website has a minimal design and is oriented towards readers. For other types of websites, a full-blown CMS like WordPress is a much better option.
I was enjoying every moment of writing in Ghost up through version 0.6.4. I was aware that it lacked a lot of features that other platforms offered, but the fact that I could preview Markdown side-by-side and have almost the entire screen dedicated to content writing made me stick with it. It was all perfect until Ghost decided to redesign the admin interface in version 0.7.0, which initially looked nice.
I instantly upgraded and started working with it. At first, it was nice, but then I started feeling that the sidebar occupied too much space. When set to hide, it would pop up every time my cursor moved close to the focus area. I could work around it, so I did not care too much and continued to upgrade to the latest releases.
Over time, I started discovering bugs. Sometimes when I searched for a blog post using the correct name, it would never appear in the search results. Other times, it would open a post I was editing earlier that was completely unrelated to the search. I expected this to be fixed in a newer release, but that never happened; it just started getting worse.
The admin panel started loading more slowly, and the login process took longer. Instead of things speeding up or getting more stable, new beta features were included that were not functional at all, which was incredibly disappointing.
Normally, software is supposed to get better and more stable with newer releases. Instead, this got slower and started having more bugs and non-functional beta features. Beta features are supposed to be somewhat functional, not just act as dummy placeholders in the app.
I eventually got annoyed and switched back to version 0.6.4, which is faster and feels nicer.
Thank you for reading. Stay tuned for more posts!
