The default CrunchBang desktop setup
CrunchBang is a Debian based lightweight Linux distribution, created by Philip Newborough, designed to offer speed and functionality. CrunchBang uses the Openbox window manager with GTK+ applications.

Openbox is a highly configurable window manager which allows you to change almost every aspect of how you interact with your desktop and invent completely new ways to use and control it. Yet Openbox can also be kept extremely simple, as it is in the default setup. In short, Openbox gives you control without making you do everything. CrunchBang is intended to be very light on resources, enabling it to run on old as well as new computers. CrunchBang Linux currently provides an Openbox version for i686, i486, and amd64.

CrunchBang may look as an OS for old computers but works great on newer computers. CrunchBang is also used by developers Who want to maximise performance for their application and want to use the least amount of system resource while doing so. By taking least amount of system resource the OS gives the user the rest of the system to use any other application.
